ZBrush sets the industry standard for digital sculpting and painting. As with anything else in life, where you can go is usually determined by where you begin. Having a great finished model requires a quality base mesh. ZBrush provides an arsenal of tools to assist with this task, ensuring that no matter what you have in mind, there is a way to get the perfect base to then take to the next level. The best known of these systems are explained here.

Sculptris Pro
Ignore the constraints of polygon distribution and simply – sculpt! Sculptris Pro will dynamically add (tesselate) and remove (decimate) polygons wherever and whenever needed. It does this during your brush stroke in a real-time process called Tessimation. This frees you to focus entirely on the look you’re trying to achieve.

DynaMesh is a perfect solution for free-form sculpting because it removes all need for focusing on topological constraints. Change the overall shape of the model by pushing or pulling, adding various pieces of geometry to combine into one, or even remove geometry in a manner similar to what can be done with Boolean operations. Where Sculptris Pro dynamically adjusts the triangles in your mesh as you sculpt, DynaMesh redistributes the model’s polygons as quads on command.

Mesh Detailing
Whether created in ZBrush or imported from elsewhere, once you have your base mesh it is time to start detailing. ZBrush features a robust suite of tools to accomplish this. Those listed below are just the tip of the iceberg.

Sculpting Brushes
The main workflow for creating with ZBrush is based on a system of brushes which can also be modulated using pen pressure from a graphics tablet. ZBrush will reproduce the natural feeling of a real paint brush or sculpting tool, using the pressure applied to the pen tip to transform your digital stroke in a variety of ways. There are brushes to pinch, move, build up the surface, chisel into it, slice through the model and much more. You can even use other 3D models as brushes, inserting their geometry into your surface.

In addition to being able to add detail by hand, ZBrush provides a system for procedurally generating surface detail through noise patterns. Choose a detail type, adjust a few simple parameters, then apply that pattern to your model in its entirety or by restricting it to a certain region. You can even combine different noise types to create highly complex effects. The Noise system is ideal for both hard surface work and organic details.

Because ZBrush works with tens of millions of polygons in real-time, you can paint directly on the surface of the model without first assigning a texture map or UV’s. This offers significant advantages compared to a standard workflow. The resolution of the texture map does not need to be decided in advance. This is particularly valuable if you find you need more detailing on an area than you thought you would. Instead of repainting a new, larger texture map you can simply transfer the existing surface detail to that larger map without any reworking. You don’t even need to do UV unwrapping before you begin this painting. In fact, thanks to the way that ZBrush can project details (both sculpted and painted) from one model to another you can have a fully painted model before you even have a finalized animation mesh. Instead, you can copy everything to the final base mesh once it has been signed off on.

UV Master
In order create or use a texture map, a model first needs UV’s. These are 2D coordinates that tell all 3D applications how to apply a texture to your model. With most programs, creating those UV’s has been a time consuming challenge that requires a high level of technical expertise and has little room for creativity. With UV Master you are able to create very efficient UV’s for your model – in most cases with a single click. If you need more control over this automatic process there are features that refine where seams will be placed or increase the amount of pixel space given to certain regions of your model. It’s both intuitive and fast, letting you get back to being creative with minimal fuss.

Whether you are using ZBrush by itself as an illustration tool or as part of a production pipeline for animation, you will at some point want to show your work to others. ZBrush makes this possible through a powerful rendering system called BPR (Best Preview Render).

  1. I followed the install instructions, they are not complicated, ( and it’s not the first time, and I tested them on 2 separated machines ) and I get a lot of error messages. What am I doing wrong here???

  3. Uninstall any ZBrush installation you have. Maybe even use an uninstaller program such as revo to get any leftover files. Make sure you have a good firewall installed. Tinywall is the best IMO. One of these files is just the update. I think you have to have a least 2020.5 to be able to use just the update. Not sure. If your using the update make sure you copy it to the ZBrush directory before you run it overwriting any previous versions. Make sure the ZBrush.exe crack file is overwriting the original. If you download the whole archive you don’t need the update. You will just have to replace the cracked ZBrush.exe with the original uncracked one. Hope that helps you.

  4. I install it like all my other versions. They all worked fine. But this one allways gives me the same errors. Like #UI_TRANS_EDIT_MODE_LAZY_CURVE_CONVERGE_START or #UI_TRANS_EDIT_MODE_LAZY_CURVE_CONVERGE_END or #UI_TRANS_EDIT_MODE_MASKMESH_BEVEL. I got 17 messages like this. Than Zbrush opens and says, Sorry an unrecoverable error has been encountered, and so on, and then closes. That’s it. I don’t know what to do. 🙁

  5. I’m on a roll of troubleshooting computer related things so far this week so I want to get this working for you. Uninstall all versions of ZBrush like you normally would uninstall a program. Look in C:\Program Files\Pixologic\ (assuming you used the default install location) and make sure it’s completely empty. Also check C:\Users\{your account}\AppData\Roaming\ and delete ZPluginData folder.
    Best yet is to use Revo Uninstaller Pro and uninstall Zbrush through that. Just make sure you remove all ZBrush files. Now that I think about it, I noticed the recent ZBrush opens the last model you worked on by default now when it loads. Maybe it’s trying to load your last model and making it crash. Try moving your last model so it can’t see it when it starts up. That’s all I can think of for now. Hope you get it working.

  6. I managed to make the software run, but after a while the software stops letting me save my work, perhaps a new crack might save the day here!

  7. Well this sucks…. Can’t save. At all… Was working fine till I connected to the internet. I installed using update only so I can’t test any reinstall… Fuck Pixelogic.

  8. I was running for hours with 1.6.1 with no issues. Now every time I try to save it crashes. Even the older versions.

  9. Doesn’t work. Keeps crashing when saving file “ZBRUSH IS UNABLE TO PROPERLY COMPLETE THIS FUNCTION DUE TO A FAULT OR INCOMPLETE INSTALLATION” . Worked fine till today, tried everything, reinstalling fresh doesn’t help. Saving tool/file or exporting as obj all end up in crash. Bugger, the version uploaded here 2021.5.1 is the only solution for now, but since all my files were on newest ill have to wait for new patched / cracked version. If anyone knows the fix to please post it here. The HxD solution with editing hex values of bb43958 , b43958 doesn’t help either.

  10. I’ve found short term fix for this version. Download RunAsDate program and run cracked Zbrush.exe executable with reverse date of 3/8/2021. Basically March 8 of 2021. Create shortcut of this on Desktop and voila! It works. Hopefully this issue is addressed in next crack, but as of now using RunAsDate found on nirsoft site (First google’d result) does the job. It lets you save / export obj / tool and so on.

  12. as i see there are useless mesg or just bad ones here, I had to post a quick fix as this website helps me a lot. google RunAsDate program, download it, run it, change date to 3/8/2021”check box immediate mode”, hit run or ”create desktop shortcut”. let me know how long this works for you, NOW MY SAVE WORKS

  14. RunAsDate solution stopped working today (30/03/2021). Until yesterday everything was working fine. Now I can’t save any project anymore. =(

  15. Horsts crack is useless, doesn’t work. The crack provided in the thread is also usleess. RunAsDate solution is done for too, doesn’t work anymore.

  16. Just uninstall and revert back to the crack released in Dec. There’s not much offered in this version you cant get in the earlier. I’m sure a working version will be released soon.

  17. horst crack isnt working anymore .. Doomy , some of us has their project saved in 6.2 and the zbrush project files arent backward compatible ..

  20. rfsd, I didn’t realise it wouldn’t be compatible on such a recent older version. Yes, they should look into a few things, CC3 included, but I haven’t even seen an acknowledgment from them about any complaints.
